Our exclusive humpback whale watching photography tours offer you the opportunity to witness the awe-inspiring spectacle of breaching whales against the backdrop of the Byron Hinterland at Golden Hour. This is a unique experience only availability to guests onboard this tour. 

Every winter, over 35,000 Humpback Whales migrate from Antarctica up the East Coast of Australia to mate and birth their calves in warm tropical waters.  Witness their playful curiosity and acrobatics as they breach, slap and splash just off the beaches of beautiful Byron Bay.

What You'll Learn: During this immersive experience, you'll learn expert techniques from Ross Long himself, an award winning wildlife photographer with a deep passion for marine life. From mastering composition and lighting to understanding whale behaviour, Ross will guide you every step of the way to ensure you capture the perfect shot.

Why Ross Long is the Best Person to Teach: Ross Long is an award winning wildlife photographer. in 2023 he was a winner and finalist in numerous photography competition including the Sony Alpha Awards and the Ocean Photographer of the Year. Ross is a self taught photographer who believes that the art of photography is best learnt by being in the field. Ross Long is renowned for his ability to capture stunning images that evoke emotion and inspire change. His passion for conservation and dedication to educating others make him the perfect mentor for aspiring photographers looking to make a meaningful impact through their art.

The Day: 
We will meet at Wild Byron, located at Brunswick Heads at 11:45am. I will spend an hour with you educating you about my techniques for capturing breaching whales. This not only includes the right camera settings, but also mastering focus as well as mindset. Our skipper Glen we will then brief us about boat safety and the experience on board the boat at 12:45pm. We then head out to the open ocean from 1pm to sunset to capture an array of wildlife including whales, dolphins, turtles, sharks and bird life.
